Throughout time, humans have been creating homes. The assembly of decorations, furniture, colors, pictures, and style are usually unique for each person. There is more than just personal style to take into account here. People are passionate on their home. It can be one of the proudest things that they have done. Why do people pour their heart and soul into something that can be so materialistic?
Our Home is Our Temple to Ourselves
You know that great feeling of when you have been traveling or have had a very long day and it is just the best thing in the world to come home? That feeling plays a part in why a home is so important. Being home gives us a chance to think about who we are. We surround ourselves with items and memories that make us who we are or reflect our personalities. Our home reminds us of what makes us great or special. It is relaxing and calming because our soul feels found. It is peaceful to feel like we truly fit in somewhere. We are surrounded by what we love most and the commitments we have made.
Since the beginning of time, people have been doing this. If you study the ancient civilizations of the world such as the Ancient Greeks, you will see the most grand architecture in their temples. They felt like even their gods need a home that reflected the personality. It was a continuous remember of what the god stood for.
Our home is like a temple to us. We want our home to show our values and merits. It is a creative activity as well. Each piece of furniture we choose, we choose because it says something about us. It is the reason we spend months looking for the right object for the space even though any chair will do.
Success Starts at Home
Your home should also show you want to be and where you want to go. This has the same effects of writing down a goal. Say that you want to really want to go to Paris. It is a city that you love and think is the greatest. Adding some art of the city or some decor that reminds you of Paris will remind you to save some money each day for the trip. Your home not only gives you a sense of who you are, but also where you are going.
If you are saying no this isn’t you, because maybe you just took what others were getting rid of and your walls are bare. Think of your productivity at home. Imagine if you created a space that not only you were productive in, but that inspired you. Having a space that reflects you, will motivate you to not only keep it clean and organized, but also lead to an enriching environment that you are relaxed and confident in. This not only improves your productivity, but also your mental health and happiness.
